Bed bugs have an elongated beak which they pierce into the skin and withdraw blood. This act of feeding themselves is actually 'bed bug bite'. Bed bugs come out when it is dark (night) and usually bite people while they are sleeping. They take around 3 to 10 minutes to swell and then crawl away unnoticed. Bed bugs generally bites on any area which is exposed while sleeping. Initially the bites are almost painless, but may turn to itchy welts after some time.

How do you tell if bites are from bed bugs?

If you find red brownish and oval shaped bugs, then your premises are infested with bed bugs and you had actually bed bug bites! Bed bugs actually excreate a very small amount of anesthesia into your body before they bite, therefore, you will not feel the bite immediately. Bed bug bites will appear after some time you are bitten. Also, you may feel burning sensation on the skin several days after you've been bitten.

Can you get sick from a bed bug bite?

Most of the people will only feel red marks over the skin and itching. Very few people may have allergic reaction. Bed bugs are not known to transmit disease or pose any serious health risks.
